Supra Boats PWT #3 Recap: Lathrop, Ca

Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour in Lathrop Wraps up with Harley Clifford Winning Men’s Professional Wakeboarding
Keenan Flegel Wins Pro Skim and Chris Wolter Wins Pro Wakesurf

LATHROP, Calif. (July 11, 2015) — The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour and Pro Wakesurf Tour at Mossdale Quary Lakes opened up the competition day to clear skies, smooth waters and large crowds that lined the beach.  World class athletes from more than five countries came to compete for podium spots and the largest purse in tour history.  Australia’s Harley Clifford ultimately won the show, Men’s Professional Wakeboarding, landing a heelside 900, nuclear blind pete, an indy double tantrum, back mobe 540 and shut out the rest of the pack with a handle-pass backside 900.  Keenan Flegel took the top prize home for Pro Skim, while Chris Wolter was hailed the champion of Pro Wakesurf.

The titanic wakes of the Supra Boats’ SE550 launched riders into the air, making competition extra intense with the best athletes around the globe continuously turning the heat up.  The Men’s Professional Wakeboarding division held its quarter and semi-finals early in the afternoon, whittling down the 16 riders, to 12 and finally to six for the grand finale.
Moving on from heat one in the quarter-finals was Phillip Soven (USA), Rusty Malinoski (CDN) and Josh Twelker (USA).  Heat two rippers were Mike Dowdy (USA), Noah Flegel (USA) and Daniel Powers (USA).  Riders who advanced in heat three were Cory Teunissen (USA) in first, Tony Iacconi (AUS) in second and Austin Hair (USA) in third.  In the final of four heats, Harley Clifford (AUS), Tony Carroll (USA) and Parker Siegele (AUS) moved on.

Throwing down on the course first for the semi-finals was Powers, followed by Siegele in heat one of three.  Both had great passes, but Dowdy and Soven ended up edging them out for a chance at a spot in the finals.  In heat two, Carroll and Teunissen moved on, along with Clifford and Noah Flegel of heat three.
The main event heat was intense and everyone rode for broke.  Each competitor had two runs and could only fall once, or they were done.  Teunissen, who is second on the tour currently, fell on his first trick, putting him at the bottom of the heat after run 1.  Harley Clifford sealed the deal with huge tricks earning him a score of 95.67, to edge out Mike Dowdy, with a 92.00.  In third place was Supra Boats Noah Flegel, with a score of 85.67.
Clifford said it was one of the toughest wins he’s ever had to pull through.  “Today was awesome.  Everyone was killing it, but I knew what I had to do and the scores to beat.  I threw down and took the win – it feels great.”
Pro Skim boarders had one heat of six riders to start the semi-finals off, and ultimately two moved onto the finals.  Keenan Flegel moved into the finals standing in first place with 109.1 points, followed by younger brother Keenan Flegel with 108.2 points and Aaron Witherell with 107.4 points in third.

Final results would leave it as Keenan Flegel in first with 115.20 points, and Noah Flegel in second with 112.10 points.

Keenan Flegel said his first run was pretty rough.  “I stood up on my first pass and did more basic tricks.  The second pass in finals went well – I did a gumby shove, front shove, switch shove and a frontside 360.”  He later added his Madonna also helped sealed the deal, in addition to his variety of moves.  A Madonna is where a rider grabs the board and sticks a leg out to the side, while the half and half is two shoves, combined with a floater on top of the wave.
Six Pro Wakesurfers hit the water for the semi-finals in the early morning hours with Keenan Flegel (USA), finishing in first place with 110.9 points, followed by Chris Wolter (USA) in second with 103.3 points and finally Noah Flegel (USA), with 102.8 points in third place.
Only the top two riders in the heat advanced to the finals.   In the end Wolter barely edged out Keenan Flegel and took first place with 108.60 points, followed by Flegel in second with 108.30 points.
Mossdale Quary Lakes is the third of four stops around the United States for the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour event series.  The final stop will be in Janesville, Wisc., on August 1.
