(September 2, 2015) — Every year the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour crowns one rider “Rookie of the Year,” honoring the accomplishments of the sports’ newest and upcoming athletes. Pro’s from across the globe came to compete in the most historic event series in wakeboarding, putting their bodies on the line for a shot at reigning tour champion and taking home a piece of the largest purse in 24 years, boasting more than $130,000. Australia’s Cory Teunissen, a Supra Team rider, took home the coveted title and pushed the sport to new levels continually throughout the season.Ranked second overall behind fellow Aussie, Harley Clifford, after the series concluded in early August, Teunissen worked his way onto podiums at each of the four select stops around the U.S. Rounding out the tour, Cory took first place at Traxler Park in Janesville, Wisc., and won the breakthrough moment award, landing the first-ever wake-to-wake 1080 in a contest.“Cory’s passion for the sport, drive to excel and amazing athleticism led him to be Rookie of the Year,” said Chris Bischoff, tournament director. “He incessantly pushes himself forward and heats up the competition among fellow pro athletes in the industry. This season showed he deserved it, and we’re excited to see what is to come next year.”The 2015 season marked his first time participating on the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour. Last year, Teunissen won the overall “Junior Men’s King of Wake” title at just 17 years old.
