2011 WWA Wakeboard World Championships Debuts in Indianapolis

One of the largest and most prestigious action-sports events on the planet is set to make its debut in Indianapolis, Ind., when the ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra arrives at the Precedent on Aug. 18-21. More than 200professional and amateur wakeboarders and wakeskaters from across the globe will compete in the 18th annual invitation-only event for a shot at a world title.

Since its inception in 1994, the ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra has attracted more than 1,000 competitors from more than 20 countries. Competitors, ranging from 7 years old to 55 years young, earn their invitation to the WWA Worlds by qualifying at their respective countries’ national championships.
At the WWA Worlds, athletes compete in heats through a series of rounds during the course of the contest. In each heat, competitors perform rail tricks and aerial maneuvers while being pulled along the water by the event’s official towboat, the Supra Launch 242. Tricks are judged by a panel of officials, with only the top-scoring athletes in each heat advancing on to the following round of the contest, until a winner is determined in the finals.

The 2011 ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra will feature 23division categories, separated by age, gender, sport and skill level. The WWA Worlds has also added two new adaptive categories for wake athletes with limb loss and limb difference. The event is highlighted by its top two categories — the Pro Men’s and Pro Women’s divisions.

Last year, Dean Smith became the first Australian native to win the world title in the Pro Men’s division, while British standout Nicola Butler captured her second world title in three years in the Pro Women’s division. Both world champions are expected to compete in the 2011 WWA Worlds to defend their titles.

The action isn’t just on the water — on land, the ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra features great food and music; pro athlete autograph signings; chances to win freebies; and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

This is a great wakeboarding tournament for all the competitive athletes in the sport. Also, any person that loves the sport can participate. It can give them the chance to show their hidden potential through this. Let’s hope this competition continues to support the beginners, and teach them how to love the sport even more.
